New Rules to the Game: Shipping to the European Union

Important news for shipping merchandise to the European Union: Starting March 1, 2023, new European Union (EU) regulations will require a Harmonized System (HS) tariff code on customs forms (CN22 and CN 23) and Advance Electronic Data (AED), for all EU-bound goods.

In addition, a more detailed description of items in Customs Forms is now also required. Examples are provided below.

What exactly does this mean and how will it affect your shipping process? While it sounds complicated, it really is very simple. Packages without an HS Code or detailed description of goods may be subject to delays, excess tariff fees, or non-delivery. We strongly suggest following these new regulations to ensure prompt delivery of your international packages.

In 2021 The European Union modified their Value-Added Tax (VAT) regulations. Sellers in the U.S. are required to collect VAT and register for a IOSS (Import One-Stop Shop) account to collect VAT.

Shipping to the European Union is more complex than it was just a few years ago, so it is essential to understand the latest European Union regulations to ensure pain free shipping.
